On the occasion of the "Destinations on the Rise 2019 - Montenegro" event, which took place in Vienna on 15 May, the Austrian Die Presse published a special supplement on Montenegro on 8 pages.
The event, attended by Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Policy and Financial System Milutin Simović and the economic delegation of Montenegro, headed by President of the Chamber of Commerce Vlastimir Golubović, presented the economic opportunities, resources and investment projects and potentials of Montenegro to the Austrian business people.
An interview with Deputy Prime Minister Simović was published on the front page of the Die Presse's edition titled "Our goal is: EU". He pointed out that Montenegro has already achieved one its the key state priorities - NATO membership, and that the next target is EU membership. The Deputy Prime Minister said that on this path, the primary goal is to adopt and apply European standards, meaning that the quality of implementation of European legislation is more important than the accession date.
In addition, DPM Simović stressed that sustainable economic growth will increase the quality of life of all citizens and reduce the development gap in relation to the EU average, which is Montenegro's strategic development goal.
When asked about cooperation with Austria and the support that Montenegro expects, DPM Simović said that Austria is one of the most important foreign policy partners of Montenegro, and that the two countries have established meaningful bilateral cooperation and intensive political dialogue. "Cooperation in the economy sector opens up great opportunities, because Austria is closely linked to other EU economies, especially Germany, in economic terms. We are also grateful for the fact that Austria support the European course of Montenegro, realistically and correctly evaluates the progress we are making and pledges us support."
As to economic development of Montenegro, Deputy Prime Minister Simović informed the readers of Die Presse that the Montenegrin economy achieved real GDP growth of 4.7% in 2017, which continued in 2018, with 4,9%. "We are not surprised because this is a consequence of a clear, decisive and smart economic policy," noted the Deputy Prime Minister.
He also presented key infrastructure and capital projects, pointing out that Montenegro has also secured a security framework with NATO membership. "Why did I say that? Capital, investment and market economy require safety, long-term security and stability. Foreign investors have recognised this in Montenegro and that is why nowadays we have investors from around 130 countries," he underlined.
Answering the question on how Montenegro managed to achieve an average annual growth of 3.2% in the midst of the global economic crisis from 2006 to 2016, and to attract more than 5.5 billion of foreign direct investments, Deputy Prime Minister Simović said: "Our main advantages are the investment environment, foreign investment policy, results achieved through large investment projects and, of course, constant quantitative and qualitative increase in overall economic activity. We will let others talk about us. The best example is the current "Destination on the Rise" event, which will present successful projects that are the result of direct foreign investment, such as the luxury ports of Porto Montenegro and Luštica Bay. They are the best promoter, i.e., an example of successful use of opportunities offered by Montenegro to foreign investors. For example, the owners of Porto Montenegro invested EUR 100 million more in this project compared to the investment obligation stipulated by the contract."
The Die Presse's supplement also published an opinion piece by Dejan Medojević, Secretary of the Secretariat for Development Projects, as well as presentations of the following companies: Porto Montenegro, Mtel, Luštica Bay, Goranović, Iberostar, Regional Water Supply Company, Port of Bar, National Tourism Organisation of Montenegro, Old Royal Capital of Cetinje, Vienna Insurance Group, Hipotekarna banka, FAB Live, Budva Riviera, Prva banka, Airports of Montenegro, Bemax, and Voli.
The special supplement is intended for the Austrian market and is printed with the complete circulation of the Die Presse. The paper has a daily circulation of about 340 000 as the second most circulated newspaper in Austria. The supplement will also be published on the portal of this media outlet. Die Presse published its first edition in 1848.
