Press release: Prime Minister Milo Djukanovic met with German Ambassador Kurt Leonberger

Prime Minister Milo Djuaknovic met today with Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany Kurt Leonberger, who is paying a farewell visit to Montenegro at the end of his term of office.

The two officials expressed satisfaction with successful development of bilateral relations and cooperation, which was encouraged by enhanced top-level political dialogue and meetings between government departments and business associations. The fact that an increasing number of German businesses express interest in cooperation with their Montenegrin counterparts was found to be very encouraging. Tourism and associated industries, power industry, development and use of new and renewable power sources, telecommunications, etc. present themselves as particularly interesting fields of cooperation.

The Prime Minister acquainted his guest with the current economic and political situation in the Republic, the course of reforms and the achieved level of macroeconomic stability, mirrored in a series of positive indicators. Ambassador Leonberger paid credit to the Government for the undertaken reform processes, emphasizing that the achieved results would support Montenegros aspirations towards modern integration processes. Reference was also made to the relations within the State Union, and the two officials expressed belief that the open issues would be resolved in a democratic fashion.

At the Ambassadors request, the Prime Minister informed him of his recent visit to Brussels and highly constructive and meaningful talks he had with senior officials of Belgium and the European Union.

It was found that the twin track approach, defined by the EU ministers, would accelerate separate access of Montenegro and Serbia to the EU.

The Prime Minister thanked Ambassador Leonberger for his valuable contribution to the development of good relations and cooperation between Montenegro and the Federal Republic of Germany and wished him every success in the future.
