Prime Minister Milo Djukanovic met today in Podgorica with Croatian Ambassador to the State Union Tonci Stancic, who is making an official visit to Montenegro.
During the talks addressing a number of issues concerning bilateral relations and regional trends, the two parties expressed satisfaction with the current situation and the prospects of traditional friendship and cooperation, concluding that intensive political dialogue had helped establish concrete forms of cooperation in different fields.
Prime Minister Djukanovic stressed that the development of cooperation with the Republic of Croatia was placed among Montenegros foreign policy priorities, since Croatia is a neighbor with whom Montenegro shared both land and sea borders and with whom it had strong historical and other bonds. He informed his guest of the current political and economic situation in the Republic, the course of reforms, this years economic policy results, the relations within the State Union and Montenegros proposals on future relations between its member states. Montenegrin prime minister commended Croatias progress towards European and transatlantic integration, and Ambassador Stancic expressed readiness on the part of Croatia to share the experience acquired during that process.
Ambassador Stancic pointed out that his government was interested in promoting all forms of cooperation with Montenegrin partners. He recognized transport infrastructure, tourist and shipping industries as prospective fields of cooperation. The construction of Adriatic-Ionian Highway was found to be of critical importance not only for the two countries but also for wider regional development.
It was mutually agreed that good relations between the two counties and fruitful cooperation was the best contributions to the stability of the region and its integration into modern international associations.
