Prime Minister Milo Djukanovic met today in Podgorica with Head of the OSCE Mission to Serbia-Montenegro Ambassador Mauricio Massari, as part of his official visit to Montenegro.

Ambassador Massari introduced the newly appointed Head of the OSCE Podgorica Office, Romanian diplomat, Ambassador Paraschiva Badescu. She was welcomed by the Prime Minister, who expressed readiness of the Government and its bodies to provide every assistance in the execution of that important office.

At the meeting, reference was made to the cooperation between the OSCE on the one hand and the Government and relevant authorities on the other, the economic and political situation, relations within the State Union and regional developments.

The Prime Minister stressed that the maim priorities of the Government in the following period are the strengthening of political and macroeconomic stability and the furtherance of the activities aimed at settling the statehood issue. In the sphere of European and Euro-Atlantic integration those include the completion of the Feasibility Study for the opening of negotiation for the EU Stabilization and Association Agreement and membership in NATOs Partnership for Peace Program.

The activities the OSCE Mission had undertaken in the process of socio-economic reforms in the Republic, adoption of international standard and development of institutions capable of complying with contemporary international trends were said to be invaluable.

The two parties expressed mutual interest in promoting cooperation through the OSCEs offices in Belgrade and Podgorica, both in the spheres in which the OSCE had already taken an active part, such as security sector, judiciary, human and minority rights, etc. and in new spheres of importance for contemporary integration, notably with the EU. In view of this, it is of critical importance to create a favorable climate for further economic development, promoting the effectiveness of the legal system and encouraging foreign investment. An important aspect of the OSCEs involvement is mirrored in the development of regional cooperation in particular fields.
