Joint press release by Government of Montenegro and Government of Republic of North Macedonia

Podgorica, Montenegro (24 May 2019) - The first joint session of the governments of Montenegro and the Republic of North Macedonia took place in Podgorica earlier today. That was the first joint session of the governments of the two countries and, at the same time, the first one that took place in Montenegro.
The delegation of the Republic of North Macedonia, headed by Prime Minister Zoran Zaev, included Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Radmila Šekerinska Jankovska, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Oliver Spasovski, Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management Ljupčo Nikolovski, Minister of Health Venko Filipče, Minister of Transport and Communications Goran Sugarevski, Minister of Environment Sadula Duraki, Deputy Foreign Minister Andrej Žernovski and Secretary-General of the Government Dragi Raškovski.
Prime Minister Duško Marković headed the delegation of Montenegro, represented by: Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Policy and Financial System and Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Milutin Simović, Minister of the Interior Mevludin Nuhodžić, Minister of Defence Predrag Bošković, Minister of Health Kenan Hrapović, Minister of Transport and Maritime Minister Osman Nurković, Minister of Economy Dragica Sekulić, Minister of Tourism and Sustainable Development Pavle Radulović, State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Zoran Janković and Secretary-General of the Government Natasa Pešić.
The two governments noted that the relations between Montenegro and the Republic of North Macedonia are based on the principles of friendship, openness and trust. The fact that there are no outstanding issues between the two countries opens up an unlimited space at the political level for reinforcing ties in all areas of mutual interest.
The meeting underlined a high degree of synchronisation regarding the current and future foreign policy activities, taking into account the complementarity of foreign policy and the unequivocal commitment of the Republic of North Macedonia and Montenegro to EU and NATO membership. Both sides also expressed satisfaction with mutual cooperation and vision in terms of the European and Euro-Atlantic perspective of the two countries.
The two delegations expressed satisfaction with the high-quality relations at regional and multilateral level, and commended the current practice of providing mutual support, both in terms of attitudes, and through support to candidates for leadership positions in regional and international organisations and mechanisms of cooperation.
Continuous and high-quality communication between the authorities of the two countries resulted in today's signing of several agreements, namely the Agreement between the Government of Montenegro and the Government of the Republic of North Macedonia on mutual exchange and protection of classified information, the Protocol between the Ministry of the Interior of the Republic of North Macedonia and the Ministry of the Interior of Montenegro on cooperation in the field of European Integration, the Agreement on Environmental Cooperation between the Ministry of Sustainable Development and Tourism of Montenegro and the Ministry of Environment and Spatial Planning of the Republic of North Macedonia and the Memorandum of Understanding in the field of health between the Ministry of Health of the Republic of North Macedonia and the Ministry of Health of Montenegro, thus creating conditions for boosting the existing ties in these areas.
The session pointed out the need to improve and strengthen the intensity of cooperation in all fields of mutual interest, putting special emphasis on the field of economy, having in mind the potentials in the domain of goods exchange between the two countries, the existing investment environment and tourist resources. In that regard, both sides expressed satisfaction with the holding of the Business Forum, where renowned business people from the two countries defined areas of common interest for intensifying future cooperation.
The next session of the two governments will take place in the Republic of North Macedonia.
