Minister Damjanović participates in CMBEBIH 2019 Conference as a special guest

Minister of Science Dr. Sanja Damjanović is paying a visit to Banja Luka today, where she will take part in the Third International Conference on Medical and Biological Engineering – CMBEBIH 2019, as a special guest.

CMBEBIH 2019 is the largest and most important conference in this field in South East Europe. This year, it brought together more than 500 participants from 45 countries. The conference was supported by all the relevant international organisations from this field, such as the European Alliance for Medical and Biological Engineering & Science and the International Federation of Medical and Biological Engineering. Furthermore, the conference gathered business representatives in the form of a so-called Business Forum, placing a special emphasis on young people, which is why the conference included a Student Congress as well. Medical and biological engineering represent a fast-growing field of development and the conference aimed to provide a platform for exchange of information and innovative ideas, with the ambition to have an impact on the future development and creation of a joint vision.

In her introductory address, minister Damjanović presented the regional project of establishing the South East Europe International Institute for Sustainable Technologies (SEEIIST), pointing to the benefits of participation in the SEEIIST project in terms of biomedical research, treatment of patients, building and strengthening capacities, encouraging technology transfer and engaging the local economy, digitalisation and development of alternative energy sources, etc. Indicating the large progress made in terms of the project implementation, both politically and scientifically, the minister particularly emphasised the importance of the highest-level political support at this stage, primarily through the signing of the Memorandum of Cooperation Framework.

The conference was hosted and co-organised by Prof. Almir Badnjević, Verlab Director and the President of Bosnia and Herzegovina Medical and Biological Engineering Society and Prof. Ranko Škrbić, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine of University of Banja Luka.
