Prime Minister Milo Djukanovic met today in Podgorica with the US delegation in charge of the international assistance program, headed by State Department Coordinator for US Assistance to Europe and Eurasia Ambassador Thomas Adams. The delegation also comprised representatives of the US Agency for International Development (USAID).
Prime Minister Djukanovic observed that the cooperation with US partners had so far been very fruitful and thanked the US Government and other institution for the programs whose implementation had made considerable contribution to social and economic reforms in Montenegro and institutional development in accordance with contemporary standards. He informed his guests that the Governments priority in the following period was complete dedication to further reform, strengthening of macroeconomic stability and settlement of the statehood status, on the path to achieving the primary strategic goal, which is European and transatlantic integration, i.e. admission to the European Union and NATO.
Ambassador Adams said that the US was satisfied with the use of the assistance that had been provided so far, since important projects in various fields had been implemented. He expressed the readiness to continue the assistance through programs that would help enable Montenegrin institutions to participate in the resolution of global problems, such as the struggle against organized crime, international terrorism, etc. Noting that internal limitation in the USA imposed the necessity of reducing and redirecting assistance programs, Ambassador Adams stressed that there were still opportunities and readiness to support Montenegros programs for the development of a modern society, based on the balance of legislative, judicial and executive power.
