Press release: Prime Minister Milo Djukanovic meets Head of the European Parliament Delegation for South East Europe Doris Pack

Prime Minister Milo Djukanovic met today in Podgorica with Head of the European Parliament Delegation for South East Europe Doris Pack, who is visiting Montenegro with a view to attending the Cetinje Parliamentary Forum.

During the meeting, reference was made to cooperation between the Montenegrin Government and other state authorities and the European Parliament, political and economic situation in Montenegro, relations within the State Union and regional developments.

Informing his guest about the current situation in the Republic, the Prime Minister emphasized Montenegros unreserved commitment to further reform, aimed at fulfilling the requirements for European and transatlantic integration as soon as possible, which was the absolute national priority of Montenegro. By the same token, a positive feasibility study on a Stabilization and Association Agreement with the European Union and membership in NATOs Partnership for Peace Program are recognized as direct goals. Pursuing that course, Montenegro, its Government and other state and social institutions are ready to meet all requirements within their competence.

In addition, the Prime Minster made reference to the issues concerning the State Union and the proposal for the rearrangement of relations between the member states, expressing strong belief that European institutions would support the talks as a way to reach an acceptable solution.

Head of the European Parliament Delegation expressed complete understanding for the presented views and positions, stressing that after the adoption of new organizational measures by the Government and the Parliament, conditions were met for considerable improvement of cooperation between Montenegrin institutions and authorities and bodies of the European Parliament. Among other things, she observed that it was essential for the twin track approach, the European Union adopted with regard to the State Union, to be fully implemented, so that the efforts and results of the member states concerning the requirements for European integration could be independently and adequately valued.
