Prime Minister Milo Djukanovic met today with Croatias newly appointed Consul General to Montenegro Ivica Skaric.
Both parties expressed their satisfaction with the present cooperation and good prospects for the development of traditional friendship, arguing that continued political dialogue would help identify the priorities in promoting various aspects of practical cooperation. The realistic prospects and mutual interests for cooperation were found to exist in the area of energy and transport infrastructure and opening of new road and shipping routes, particularly in tourism and related industries. Joint efforts should be focused on the Adriatic-Ionian Highway, which is critical for the development of the entire region.
The Prime Minister gave credit to the Republic of Croatia for its achievements in European integration, arguing that its accession to the European Union was of importance to the neighboring countries as well.
The development of relations and cooperation with the Republic of Croatia is placed high among Montenegros foreign policy priorities, since the two countries share both naval and land border, maintaining deep historic and other bonds. The issues concerning the two countries diaspora are important agenda items for all bilateral meetings, with the position that minorities represent the bridge for cooperation between the nations and states.
It was agreed that good relations between the two countries and close cooperation strengthened the stability of the region and its integration into modern international structures. Wishing the Consul General every success in his work, the Prime Minister expressed the readiness of the Government and other Montenegrin institutions to provide all the assistance required in those efforts.
