Prime Minister Milo Djukanovic meets Indian Ambassador to Serbia and Montenegro Livinia Prasad

Today in Podgorica, Montenegrin Prime Minister Milo Djukanovic had an audience with Indian Ambassador to the State Union Livinia Prasad, who is making her official visit to Montenegro. During the talks reference was made to bilateral cooperation, current developments in Montenegro and relations within the State Union.

Prime Minister Djukanovic informed the Indian Ambassador of the economic and political situation in the Republic, reform processes, level of macroeconomic stability and requirements for the development of international relations and the inflow of foreign investment. By the same token, the Prime Minister stressed that the development of good relations with friendly countries, among which India occupied a prominent place, was of great importance to Montenegro.

In particular, he acquainted his guest with relations in the State Union and Montenegros proposal for their redefinition, in accordance with the provisions of the Belgrade Agreement and the Constitutional Charter. Referring to this issue, Ms Prasad professed that any solution reached in a peaceful manner, by mutual consent between the member states and their citizens, would be acceptable to the Indian Government.

Thanking the Government of Montenegro and Montenegrin citizens for the solidarity demonstrated with regard to the severe natural disaster that affected India and a number of countries in South and Southeast Asia, she observed that there were unexploited opportunities for the development and promotion of traditional friendship between Montenegro and India, through concrete forms of economic cooperation. She stressed that the forthcoming visit of Montenegros government and business delegation to India and the talks with relevant Indian ministries and business associations, would be a good opportunity to establish that cooperation.

Shipping, tourism and associated industries were recognized as potential areas of cooperation, as well as the information technology in which India made considerable progress. In addition to this, proposals were put forward for the strengthening of other forms of cooperation, including cultural.
