Response to case of giving envelope with money to former mayor was given by competent institutions, PM Marković stresses

Podgorica, Montenegro (28 May 2019) -- Prime Minister Duško Marković said at the Prime Minister's Questions session in the Parliament that a response to the case of giving an envelope with money to the former mayor of Podgorica was given by the Anti-Corruption Agency and that the Special State Prosecutor's Office has taken comprehensive activities, and that the decision on what the consequences would be if someone violated the law shall be reached by a competent institution and not the Prime Minister.
Responding to the question by the representatives of the SNP-DEMOS Miodrag Lekić whether he believes that due to this case there should be some consequences "for the top leadership of the country", Prime Minister Marković noted that he will respect any decision taken by the competent institutions.
"I really believe that you are not invoking a kangaroo court in Montenegro, which would decide overnight on who will bear the consequences. I call on MPs to send messages to the public that institutions and their decisions must be respected. We will see what kind of decisions will ultimately be reached, "said the Prime Minister.
The additional question on whether he intends to "initiate a serious state initiative to achieve a broad citizen consensus in the Montenegrin society on the postulates of the rule of law, rational economy and a politically and culturally integrated country", Prime Minister Duško Marković pointed out that since the election of this Government, he has persistently been calling for dialogue.
He also said the ruling coalition wants to share both obligations and responsibilities for the country's future with responsible opposition.
"The opposition's motto - never with the DPS - means never with the political majority in Montenegro. At least for now. The citizens alone can give a response to that in the elections, whatever you may think about them," Prime Minister Duško Marković concluded.
