Today in Podgorica, Prime Minister Milo Djukanovic met HE Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Serbia and Montenegro Andreas Zobel, who is making a working visit to Montenegro.
During the discussion the two officials recognized an upward trend in bilateral relations and cooperation, mirrored in more intensive communication both at the political level and between government departments and other institutions concerning different aspects of cooperation, particularly economic.
It was observed that the positive feasibility study for the process of separate integration of the two member states of the State Union into the European Union, represented an important stage on the path to Europe. The expectation was expressed that the other member states cooperation with the Hague Tribunal would be continued and fully implemented, which would enable the opening of negotiations on stabilization and association with the EU, as well as a substantial progress towards transatlantic integration, i.e. NATO membership, especially through the Partnership for Peace Program.
The Prime Minister stressed that, in the near future, Montenegro would try to make the best use of the twin track approach, in order to cross the longest possible distance on its way to European Union, exercising the right enshrined in the Belgrade Agreement and the Constitutional Charter to determine its statehood status early next year. The common position is that this political process should be based on international standards and implemented in a public procedure with adequate participation of interested international organizations and institutions.
It was found that the settlement of Kosovo and Metohija status, as the only remaining security issue, should be addressed as soon as possible, through a dialogue between interested parties, based on the UN Security Councils Resolution 1244 and with the participation of representatives of the international community.
Ambassador announced that he would soon be back for another visit, dedicated to the issues of growing bilateral cooperation.
