Press release: Prime Minster Milo Djukanovic meets Russian Ambassador to Serbia and Montenegro Alexander Alekseyev

Prime Minister Milo Djukanovic met today in Podgorica with the Russian Federation Ambassador to the State union Alexander Alexeyev, who is making an official visit to Montenegro.

Both parties expressed their satisfaction with constant development of bilateral relations and cooperation between Montenegro and Russia, mirrored in the intensification of top-level political dialogue, as well as the development of economic and investment cooperation and strengthening of educational, scientific and cultural ties.

The Prime Minister acquainted the Ambassador with the current political and economic situation in the Republic, which he said was stable, and with the assessments indicating that this years key macroeconomic parameters would be further improved. Referring to the implementation of economic policy, he commended Russian interest in making capital investments in Montenegro, above all in the sectors of energy, shipping industry and tourism.

The Prime Minister also informed the Ambassador of Montenegros efforts towards European and Euro-Atlantic Integration, and the relations within the State Union and Montenegros proposal for the unions restructuring into an alliance of independent and internationally recognized states.

Ambassador Alexeyev supported Montenegros efforts towards accession to the European Union, arguing that it would not represent an obstacle to further development of relations with the Russian Federation, but quite the opposite, would encourage the development of international cooperation on the principle of equality. He stressed that the Russian Federation wished both members of the State Union all the best for the future for, adding that the citizens would make the final decision, which the Russian Federation would respect.
