Press release: Prime Minister Milo Djukanovic meets Polish Foreign Minister Adam Daniel Rotfeld

During the meeting, reference was made to bilateral relations and cooperation, relations within the state union and regional developments.

The meeting recognized an upward trend in bilateral relations and cooperation mirrored in intensive political dialogue and meetings between different departments and agencies of the two countries.

The Prime Minister informed Minister Rotfeld of the political and economic developments in Montenegro, observing that the political situation in the country was stabile and economic indicators positive. He thanked the Polish Government for the development credit of US$15 million, provided under concessionary terms for the implementation of projects in the areas of agriculture, power and shipping industries in Montenegro.

The Prime Minister also pointed out that Montenegros main foreign policy goals included European and Euro-Atlantic integration, i.e. membership of the European Union and NATO.

Referring to relations within the State Union, the Prime Minister said that Montenegros aspiration towards full statehood and its proposals in that respect were motivated by a conviction, established through years-long experience, that Montenegro should directly present its legitimate interests in foreign affairs and international organizations.

Minister Rotfeld expressed full understanding for the presented views and positions and a strong support for Montenegro commitment to European and Euro-Atlantic integration, emphasizing Polands readiness to share the experience obtained in the process through which it had successful passed.

Poland was said to be ready to support Montenegros development efforts, both through bilateral and multilateral activities, as a member of the European Union.
