Press release: Prime Minister Milo Djukanovic meets Austrian President Heinz Fischer

Prime Minister Milo Djukanovic met today in Sveti Stefan with Austrian President Heinz Fischer, who is making an official visit to Montenegro and the State Union.
It was noted with pleasure that relations between Montenegro and Austria were being successfully developed and that intense political dialogue was accompanied with increasingly strong efforts and various forms of cooperation, above all economic. Considerable interest was expressed in the area of tourism and related industries, including environmental protection and the settlement of issues associated with Montenegros urban development. Austria participates in the implementation of a development project for road and air transport, and is ready to support small and medium-sized enterprises, making investments in new projects in the area of banking and the process of restructuring and privatization of the existing properties. There is also the joint project Bjelasica-Komovi, which includes five municipalities in the north of Montenegro.
The Prime Minister informed Mr. Fischer of current developments in the Republic, characterizing the political situation as stable and economic activities as dynamic. The strengthening of the already achieved macroeconomic stability still continues, which promotes the inflow of foreign direct investment from private sources.
The Prime Minister also acquainted the Austrian President with relations within the State Union and Montenegros proposal to restructure the relationship into an alliance of independent and internationally recognized states. By the same token, he stressed that the rights, enshrined in the Belgrade Agreement and the Constitutional Charter, would be exercised within the defined deadline, in accordance with best European practices and recognized international standards.
President Fischer expressed interest and understanding regarding the expressed views and positions, emphasizing Austrias readiness to support Montenegros efforts on the road to European and Euro-Atlantic integration and accelerated accession to modern international structures.
In addition, the two officials exchanged views on current regional developments and voiced mutual interest in peaceful and democratic settlement of outstanding issues with a view to preserving the regions stability.
