The European Union has allocated an additional 3.6 million euro to Montenegro for the preparation of project documentation for projects that will reinforce the infrastructure in the area of rail transport and the digital sector. Additional funds were approved at the twelfth meeting of the Administrative Board of the Western Balkans Investment Framework, held in Berlin, organized by the European Commission and the Federal Ministry of Finance of Germany. The Montenegrin delegation was led by the Deputy Chief Negotiator - National IPA Coordinator Ivana Glisevic Djurovic.
Preparation of the main projects for the reconstruction of the Golubovci-Bar railway line as part of the Bar-Vrbnica railway line, which is part of the EU's Main traffic network will be financed with the project, worth 3 million euro. The design will encompass all elements of the infrastructure necessary for more efficient traffic conduction and compliance with safety standards in accordance with the rules established at the EU level.
In addition, for the first time, the European Union supported Montenegro for the preparation of project documentation for the improvement of infrastructure in the digital sector in the amount of 600,000 euros. These funds will be spent on preparing a feasibility study, cost-benefit analysis, conceptual solutions and technical documentation for building the infrastructure necessary for better coverage of the rural areas and parts of Montenegro which are not currently fully covered by the Internet.
The meeting also discussed issues related to the financing of infrastructure projects in the Western Balkans region during the next financial perspective of the EU 2021-2027, with confirmation of the EU's willingness to financially support the countries of the region in implementing the most important projects and during this period.
