Prime Minister Milo Djukanovic met today in Podgorica with Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt to the State Union Andel Nagib

The Prime Minister informed his guest of the political and economic situation in the Republic, social reforms and main macroeconomic indicators of long-term positive trends, which resulted in qualitatively new impetus to investment, dominated by private foreign direct investment. He stressed that in the following period the Governments efforts would concentrate on attracting partners for the implementation of major infrastructure projects.

Referring to Montenegros foreign policy priorities, the Prime Minister stressed that the Government had focused on European and Euro-Atlantic integration, and that successful opening of negotiations on stabilization and association with the European Union and membership in the Partnership for Peace Program represented immediate goals in the following period.

The Prime Minister also acquainted the Ambassador with Montenegros efforts to resolve the statehood issue, i.e. restore its full statehood and became a separate international legal entity in the process that would observe the recognized international practice and applicable European standards. In that context, he stressed that Montenegro was determined to take full responsibility for its future and international integration.

With regard to bilateral relations, both officials expressed their interest in recovering the traditional friendship to its former level and strengthening economic cooperation. In that respect, the Ambassador informed Prime Minister Djukanovic that Egypt was committed to coordinating and adopting the institutional and legal framework for bilateral relations, recalling the agreement on the protection and promotion of investment and avoidance of double taxation, recently signed with the State Unions authorities.
