At today's session of the Government of Montenegro, the Government adopted the Report on work and state of affairs in the administrative areas within the competence of the Ministry of the Interior with the body in its setup for 2018. Speaking about the results achieved, Interior Minister Mevludin Nuhodžić said that the positive trend from 2017 continued in 2018, which confirmed a high degree of trust in the work of the MoI and the Police.
When it comes to providing services for issuing personal documents, the Minister said that the quality level was increased and that crowds at the counters were reduced, and that in the coming period, they would work to make services even more accessible to citizens and businesses. The Minister announced that it is planned to create new personal identification documents the so-called third generation documents, in order to provide citizens with easier access to electronic services.
He also pointed to the importance of improving the protection and rescue system, through the procurement of equipment, the training of operational units operating in emergency management and the education of citizens.
In order to adopt the Schengen standards, modern equipment for surveillance at border crossing points was installed, said the Minister, adding that this year the construction or reconstruction will start of the border crossing points Ranče, Šćepan Polje and Vraćenovići, which will affect the faster flow of people, but also increase the safety and security of our borders.
"Thanks to the support of the Government and Prime Minister Marković, we actively worked on solving one of the most important life issues of our employees, so around 850 families in Podgorica, Nikšić, Bijelo Polje, Žabljak, Cetinje and other cities in the north and south will solve the housing issue under favorable conditions," the Minister said.
Presenting the results of the work of the Police Directorate, Nuhodžić emphasized that the overall situation of security in Montenegro is based on good inter-agency cooperation, primarily the Police and the Special State Prosecutor's Office.
"In co-operation with the Prosecutor's Office, and especially with the Special State Prosecutor's Office, 180 criminal charges were filed against members of organized criminal groups and persons of security interest. This is a better result compared to 2017, when 48 criminal charges were filed. Execution of more than 20 planned assassinations of members of opposing criminal groups has been prevented. This is a better result compared to 2017, when seven assassinations were prevented, "the minister said.
High-ranking members of organized criminal groups have been on the run since previous years, and in 2018 handcuffs were put on the hands of a number of them for which INTERPOL has issued international arrest warrants (arrests in Turkey, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Kosovo), and the fight against drug dealers continued by seizing over 3 tonnes of various narcotics, the Minister said.
"We have also recorded very good results in solving criminal offenses against life and limb. Out of the 109 crimes per unknown perpetrator, 95 or 87 percent were solved. In 2017, that is, in 2018, 11 criminal offenses were recorded as murder and aggravated murder, which is 55 percent less as compared to 2016 when there were 24 murders. Out of the 11 murders, eight were solved, and crimes from the previous period were also solved, "said Minister Nuhodžić.
"What is worrying is the trend of the rise of juvenile delinquency by 15.8 percent. This is a clear signal that all institutions in the accountability system should make a greater contribution, because these days we witness peer violence among the youngest population who should be the future of this society, "the Minister said.
The Minister said that traffic safety was improved, as evidenced by the fact that the number of fatalities decreased by 23.8 percent, and that the number of severe and minor injuries was reduced. He also recalled that Montenegro was one of the safest tourist destinations last summer, and the operative headquarters action of the "Summer 2018" also supported this.
"Priorities in the work of the MoI and Police Directorate this year will be the protection and respect of human rights of citizens, maintenance of public order and peace, continuation of fight against organized crime, solving the most serious crimes, primarily murders, suppression of street drug sale, as well as fight against all forms of violence, the promotion of regional and international cooperation, strengthening cooperation with citizens ", emphasized Minister Nuhodžić.
In the conclusion of the presentation, the Minister expressed the opinion that in the penal policy there is scope for strengthening the sanctions for multiple recidivists and perpetrators of serious crimes, which is also an important preventive mechanism.
Government strongly condemns attack on Tomkić family property: Police are intensively working on solving, attackers to be punished most severely
At today's session of the Government, there was also a talk about yesterday's attack on the property of Tomkić family from Berane. On this occasion, the Minister pointed out the position of the Government and made the most severe condemnation, pointing out that it was an abominable and cowardly act, which was not in favor of multiethnic Berane or Montenegro. He stated that individual cases would not violate this harmony, and that Montenegrin institutions would not allow such examples to be rooted in Montenegro.
"The police are working with all capacities and competent authorities on solving and I believe that they will discover the perpetrators and then it is up to the competent authorities to severely punish them. Montenegro is a country in which we can live, regardless of religion and nation, and we have shown it in more difficult circumstances. This case obliges the police to keep the family under full protection of the police, "Interior Minister Mevludin Nuhodzic said, adding that it is up to the authorities to do their job to the end.
