One of the topics discussed was also the signing of the Memorandum by the prime ministers of the countries of the region, expected to take place during the Berlin Process Summit, which will be held on 4-5 July 2019 in Poznan, Poland.
Another topic discussed was the formation of SEEIIST Association in accordance with the Swiss legal framework – this is how SEEIIST would get the status of a legal entity, obtaining the right to apply to relevant EU research and innovation programmes. In this regard, all the preparations have been completed, and the formation of the Association Assembly is expected in July.

Steering Committee members have also discussed the preparatory activities for the “Design Study” call within the EU Framework Programme for Research and Innovation “Horizon 2020”, which will be announced in July 2019, and which would provide additional EUR 3 million needed for completion of the Design Study, i.e. Preparatory Phase.
The next key activity will then be to include the SEEIIST project in the European Strategic Forum Research Infrastructure Roadmap (ESFRI), which would open the possibility to apply to relevant EU funds for research infrastructure, which is why this segment has also been discussed during the meeting in Sarajevo.
