Poznan, Poland (4 July 2019) -- Following today's Western Balkans - EU Ministerial Meeting in Poznan, Interior Minister Mevludin Nuhodžić made a statement to the media.

The fact that the meeting of the interior ministers of the countries of the Western Balkans and the EU member states took place for the second year in a row ahead of the Berlin Process is important for Montenegro because we exchanged views on activities in the fight against corruption, illegal migration, narcotics trafficking, trafficking in human beings and firearms.

We agreed that these security challenges and threats are indivisible, that we can not fight them independently and that, therefore, the strengthening of international police cooperation is crucial in our work.

We noted that, in order to achieve our common vision - the safe Western Balkans, we need to improve cooperation and synergy with partner services from the European Union, and to make progress in reaching a sustainable solution to the problem of illegal possession and trafficking in weapons in the region.

Montenegro has expressed its readiness to provide full support and strengthen its efforts in combating weapons smuggling, to prevent it from ending in the hands of criminals or terrorists, and all these activities are of importance for the process of accession to the European Union, when it comes to Chapter 24.
