Minister of Foreign Affairs Srđan Darmanović spoke earlier today with State Secretary for European Affairs of the Republic of France Amelie de Montchalin on the sidelines of the Western Balkans foreign ministers meeting, which was held in Poznan within the Berlin Process Summit.

Both sides agreed that it is necessary to further intensify political contacts at the highest level, especially in the light of the celebration of 140 years since diplomatic relations between Montenegro and France have been established in December this year.

Minister Darmanović informed State Secretary De Montchalin about the results that Montenegro has achieved in the process of negotiations with the EU and pointed to the significance of the enlargement policy continuation for the Western Balkan countries, despite the challenges the EU is facing.

State Secretary De Montchalin emphasised that Montenegro has made good progress in the European integration process and highlighted the need to continue to fulfil the criteria for the EU membership.

Furthermore, both sides expressed satisfaction with cooperation between the two countries within NATO that is based on common values and goals.

It was noted that there is room for boosting cooperation between Montenegro and France in numerous areas. State Secretary De Montchalin informed Minister Darmanović about the interest of the French companies to invest in Montenegro and pointed to the importance of establishing more intensive communication in order to identify potential investment areas.

The meeting exchanged opinions on the situation in the Western Balkans region, the future of enlargement policy, as well as on the current events in the EU.
