GET INvolved: Montenegro Co-Financed Programme

Introduction
Based on the Article 10, Paragraph 2, Point 3) of the Law on Scientific Research Activity (Official Gazette of Montenegro, No. 80/10, 40/11, 57/14), the Ministry of Science of Montenegro (Montenegro), together with GSI Helmholtz Center for Heavy Ion Research (GSI) and the Facility for Antiproton and Ion Research (FAIR), hereby announce the Call for the Internship and Research Programme 2019 at GSI/FAIR in Darmstadt, Germany.
GSI, the German research centre for heavy-ion physics, is one of the world's leading accelerator laboratories for basic research with accelerated ions. In cooperation with an international research community, the existing accelerator complex will be significantly extended by the Facility for Antiproton and Ion Research (FAIR). The centre provides unique research opportunities for investigations in the fields of hadronic and nuclear physics, nuclear astrophysics, atomic, laser, and plasma physics, materials science, and biophysics with applications to cancer therapy, new accelerator developments and radiation safety.

Objectives and Scope
This programme offers graduates, PhD students and researchers the possibility to participate in the Internship and Research Programme offered at the Facility for Antiproton and Ion Research in Europe Darmstadt, Germany. During their stay, they have a unique opportunity to work on a specific project during an internship and research stay with one GSI/FAIR researcher.
• Offer an opportunity to the young students and early-stage researchers from Montenegro to be part of the International Project FAIR by performing – internships, research experience within the project.
• Creating synergies between Montenegro and GSI/FAIR by allowing – mobility opportunities for students and researchers and contribute to the project in research and development.
• Building capacities for research groups that are already collaborating to allow mobility of students and researchers to be more effective within the framework of the project.
• Offer an opportunity to the young students and early-stage researchers from Montenegro to be part of the International Project FAIR by performing – internships, research experience within the project.
• Creating synergies between Montenegro and GSI/FAIR by allowing – mobility opportunities for students and researchers and contribute to the project in research and development.
• Building capacities for research groups that are already collaborating to allow mobility of students and researchers to be more effective within the framework of the project.
Co-financed Scholarships
The Ministry of Science of Montenegro and GSI/FAIR Germany will co-finance the scholarship/s for one or two talented student(s)/researcher(s).
The scholarship covers the following eligible costs:
» A monthly subsistence cost of value (Ministry of Science):
o 350 Euros for a student
o 400 Euros for a researcher
» International travel costs (Ministry of Science);
» Accommodation support (GSI/FAIR); and
» Lump sum for health, accident and liability insurance (GSI/FAIR).

Eligibility requirements
In order to receive financial support under this Call for Internship and Research Programme, the candidates must satisfy the following conditions.
1. To be enrolled in a graduate or research programme in the areas of exact and Natural Sciences, Biological and Health Sciences or Technology and/or Engineering Sciences at one of the recognised university or an advanced technical institute in Montenegro.
2. Application and submission of documents by the candidate on our application page (www.fair-center.eu/get-involved-application). Please choose GET_INvolved: Montenegro Co-Financed Programme.
3. The following documents must be submitted along with the application on the portal.
a. Curriculum vitae (in English)
b. A list of educational qualification (including vocational) in the form of transcripts in English language or mark sheets.
c. Motivation letter stating the interest to pursue the internship/research at GSI/FAIR Germany.
d. Travel document or Passport of the applicant
Selection process
The selection process shall include three stages:
First stage: (registration and application)
1. Candidates must submit their application through the application portal. The applicants will have to submit first all relevant documents as mentioned in the Call for being eligible to be in the process. The list of documents to be submitted is prescribed in the section Eligibility requirements (see above)
2. The Programme Coordinator will announce the selected candidates after they have qualified for the second stage.
Second stage: (Selection)
1. Candidates must submit their application through the application portal. The applicants will have to submit first all relevant documents as mentioned in the Call for being eligible to be in the process. The list of documents to be submitted is prescribed in the section Eligibility requirements (see above)
2. The Programme Coordinator will announce the selected candidates after they have qualified for the second stage.
Second stage: (Selection)
» An International selection committee for this Programme will review the applications for all qualified candidates selected in the first stage.
3. This interview intends to measure the ease of communication and knowledge in the area of application. One or two students/researchers will be selected from this Call.
4. The Programme Coordinator will announce the final selected student(s)/researcher(s) who will receive a scholarship for pursuing the Internship and Research Programme at FAIR/GSI. A dedicated project at GSI will assigned to the student/researcher respectively.
Third stage: (Invitation and Project)
5. The selected student/researcher will receive the Decision on awarding the scholarship from the Ministry of Science of Montenegro. This document will include the following information: GET_INvolved Montenegro Co-Financed Programme
a. Details on the financial support (including accommodation, travel, daily allowance and health and liability insurances)
6. The awarded students will be provided with an invitation letter to apply for the dedicated papers/VISA for the duration of stay in Germany.
7. The awarded student will be granted the following during the stay:
b. Supervision/mentoring of the student/researcher during their stay
c. One scientific project within one of the GSI/FAIR research topics
d. Office space and access to the equipment necessary for project realization
e. Administrative support during the stay
