FM Darmanović in Washington: Relations between Montenegro and USA based on friendly relations, strategic partnership within NATO

Washington, D.C, the United States (18 July 2019) -- Minister of Foreign Affairs Srđan Darmanović met with officials of the United States of America, within his visit to Washington, D.C, where he is taking part in the Ministerial Conference to Advance Religious Freedom, taking place under the auspices of the US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo. 

At the meeting with Congresswoman Chellie Pingree, co-chair of the bipartisan House Montenegro Caucus, the head of Montenegro’s diplomacy expressed satisfaction with relations and overall cooperation between the two countries and thanked the USA and the USA Congress for the strong support and continued help to Montenegro’s membership in NATO, which represents a confirmation of the permanent friendship and alliance. Both sides noted successful cooperation that has marked partnership between Montenegro and the Federal State of Maine. 

Minister Darmanović met earlier today with Senator Ron Johnson, the Chairman of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee. "The relations between Montenegro and the USA are based on friendly relations, with the continuous development both at the bilateral level and through the strategic partnership within NATO," Minister Darmanović pointed out and reiterated Montenegro’s commitment to building a more stable and prosperous region. Furthermore, he pointed to the Montenegro’s achievements in its EU bid and thanked the USA for the continued support in that regard. Senator Johnson highlighted that Montenegro has recognised the significance of the Alliance's values projecting and reiterated the importance of the US presence in the Western Balkans. 
  
FM Darmanović also spoke with Heather Conley, Senior Vice President for Europe, Eurasia and the Arctic at Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS). Minister Darmanović emphasised the significance Montenegro attaches to regional cooperation and good neighbourly relations. The two officials exchanged views on security and other challenges in the region and the world. 
  
Also, Minister Darmanović and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary Peter Szijjarto signed earlier today the Framework Agreement in the field of infrastructure projects. The two officials welcomed the agreement signing and exchanged views on the current developments in the EU and reiterated the importance of continuing the enlargement policy.
