Generals Lanata, Dakić sign declaration on completion of Montenegro's integration into NATO

Podgorica, Montenegro (23 July 2019) -- Commander of the Alliance Transformation Command (ACT), General André Lanata and Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Montenegro, Brigadier General Dragutin Dakić, signed today the Declaration on the completion of Montenegro's integration into NATO, thus formally ending the process of integration of our country into the Alliance.

The signing ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Duško Marković Minister of Defence Predrag Bošković, Minister of Foreign Affairs Srđan Darmanović and other members of the Council for NATO.

General Dakić expressed satisfaction with the successful completion of the process and expressed gratitude to the Transformation Command for its strong support during the course of the integration period. He also recalled the achievements in the reform of the the Armed Forces of Montenegro, emphasising that the overall defence capabilities are adapted to NATO's defence planning process, and that three key processes are currently being implemented in the Armed Forces of Montenegro, namely the reform of the Army, equipping and modernising and contributing to the collective security system.

Brigadier General Dragutin Dakić particularly praised the establishment of the Air Policing Mission, which was the first concrete benefit of membership in the Alliance. "I assure you that the Armed Forces of Montenegro will remain committed to fulfilling its obligations and will remain a credible partner," he concluded.

General Lanata said he was impressed by the successes Montenegro has achieved during the integration process. "The completion of this process is a great success, not only for your country, but for the entire Alliance as well," he underscored. He thanked Montenegro for its contribution to the stability of Southeast Europe, NATO's efforts to ensure stability beyond its borders, and its participate in NATO-led missions.

This morning, the Final Conference of the Integration Process took place in the Ministry of Defence with the participation of the representatives of the Armed Forces of Montenegro, the Transformation Command, as well as the Accession and Integration Working Group (AIWG), formed by NATO on the occasion of Montenegro's Integration Process.

Montenegro will continue to maintain its declared abilities in the future. The main objectives of the integration process were the integration of the Armed Forces of Montenegro into the command structure and structure of the Alliance's forces, as well as contributing to its missions and tasks in accordance with NATO principles and procedures. The Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Montenegro stated earlier today that during the second half of next year Montenegro will have its representative in the Alliance Transformation Command in Norfolk.
