Prime Minister Milo Djukanovic met in Podgorica today with personal envoy of the EU High Representative for Common Foreign and Security Policy, Ambassador Miroslav Lajcak.
In an open and purposeful discussion, Ambassador Lajcak expressed his satisfaction with the progress of the referendum campaign since his last visit and the positive atmosphere in which Montenegros referendum process was being carried out in accordance with European standards. He noted that, in that way, Montenegro was sending a positive message to Europe and stressed that he would convey such impression to Brussels, ahead of the forthcoming meeting of the EU Council of Ministers.
Prime Minister Djukanovic and Ambassador Lajcak also discussed the developments that would take place in Montenegro immediately after the referendum of May 21. Prime Minister Djukanovic noted that the post-referendum developments would be in full accordance with the rules accepted by all participants in the process and in line with Europes expectations. Djukanovic further stressed that this would have a considerable positive impact on the atmosphere in Montenegro, the strengthening of political stability and constructive relationship with Serbia, on the road towards faster integration with the EU. He noted, in particular, the importance of the EUs constructive role in the referendum process, as well as that of Ambassador Lajcak and his team.
In conclusion, Ambassador Lajcak informed Prime Minister Djukanovic that he would pay another visit to Montenegro following the EU Council meeting.
