Press release: Prime minister Milo Djukanovic meets Head of the EU Monitoring Mission in Podgorica Jan Haukaas

Prime Minister Milo Djukanovic met today with Head of the European Union Monitoring Mission in Podgorica Jan Haukaas.
The talks focused on the recent referendum on Montenegros state status and activities in the post-referendum process.
Mr Haukaas congratulated the Government and the people of Montenegro on the organization and the conduct of the vote, as well as on the preliminary results announced by the Republican Referendum Committee.
Having thanked Mr Haukaas, Prime Minister emphasized that Montenegro had shown the capacity and capability, after all the developments in the Western Balkans over the past fifteen or so years, to maintain stability and organize such an important process in a peaceful and democratic manner. The Prime Minister also expressed satisfaction with the referendum result because, through a democratic vote, a goal was achieved a convincing majority of Montenegrin citizens had aspired to. In that context, he stressed that the restoration of statehood would help develop and establish trust in the society, and that in the next period the Government would be fully committed to European and transatlantic integration of Montenegro.
In addition, the Prime Minister expressed confidence that Montenegros independence would represent a new fortunate circumstance for the region and the Republic of Serbia itself, because it would enable establishment of neighborly relations on a sound and permanent basis.
