Regarding the letter of Prince Nicholas Petrović on the occasion of the transfer of the mortal remains of the Petrović Njegoš Dynasty, Minister of Culture Aleksandar Bogdanović stated:

We have received the statement of Prince Nicholas Petrović with deep and sincere respect, just as the State of Montenegro has always treated the issue of the transfer of mortal remains of the members of his family - a process that began in 1989. In the same way, together with respected Prince Nicholas, we undertook the activities related to his father's and uncles' last earthly residence. Hence, we especially appreciated Prince Nicholas' desire to avoid a religious ceremony, and with his consent the location to which the remains would be transferred was chosen.

During the previous meeting of the Coordinating Committee for the transfer of the mortal remains of the descendants of the Njegoš Dynasty, held at the Ministry of Culture, it was Prince Nicholas Petrović who requested that the New Cemetery in Cetinje should be the location of the Petrović Njegoš Dynasty Alley, emphasising that he did not want religious ceremonies that would cause any turbulences. On this occasion it is advisable to recall the vandal destruction of the graves of Petrović Dynasty in the Cetinje Monastery, which is another reason why the current idea is related to the New Cemetery in Cetinje.

Certainly, it is not a family act, but the aspiration and determination of the State - which will certainly take into account the attitude of the descendants of the family. Furthermore, with deep respect for Prince Nicholas, the idea of transferring the mortal remains was not initiated by him, but is merely a continuation of what the State initiated in 1989. However, the State will continue to work decisively in order to undertake activities already agreed upon by all parties, and we strongly believe that Prince Nicholas will also be a key protagonist of this process.

In addition, it should be mentioned that the Government of Montenegro has already communicated with the countries where the mortal remains of the members of the Njegoš Dynasty are now, so through the diplomatic and administrative channels, the procedure that precedes the transfer has already began.

Everything related to the transfer of the mortal remains of the Njegoš Dynasty, in fact, is motivated by our most sincere feelings of devotion, and by the determination of the State of Montenegro to show special respect for the indelible trace and historical role of our royal dynasty in establishing and strengthening the Montenegrin identity. The transfer of mortal remains to Montenegro would show the unbreakable bond of the Petrović Dynasty with its people. In that sense, it is our duty to remain faithful to this noble purpose.
