Press release: Djukanovic meets Lipka

Prime Minister of the Republic of Montenegro today received a farewell visit from President of the Republican Referendum Committee Ambassador Fratisek Lipka, who was engaged throughout Montenegros referendum process as a representative of the European Union.

On that occasion, Ambassador Lipka reiterated the well-known views that the referendum in Montenegro had been organized and carried out in a peaceful, dignified and legitimate manner, which rendered the referendum result indisputable, and communicated Brusselss satisfaction in that regard. He also stressed that Montenegrin citizens had shown a high level of political maturity in the process, adding that a very real European perspective was being opened to Montenegro. Ambassador Lipka emphasized that the implementation of the referendum in Montenegro was also a huge success of the EU policy in the Balkans.

Prime Minister Djukanovic emphasized the importance of the EUs role in the referendum process in Montenegro and expressed gratitude to Ambassador Lipka, Ambassador Lajcak, and all their associates working under auspices of the EU High Representative for Common Foreign and Security Policy, who had made the best contribution to the implementation of European standards in the process and thereby its legitimacy, which was accepted by all relevant international factors. He said once again that everybody had won in the process and stressed that Montenegro was about to go through a period of consolidating all institutional and human resources towards faster achievement of Montenegros European goals, to the benefit of all its citizens.

Also he reaffirmed Montenegros commitment towards building constructive, friendly relations with Serbia, as well as with all its neighbors, pursuing common interests, on the road towards more dynamic European integration of the entire region.
