During the visit, the Minister participated at the International Road Safety
Conference and met bilaterally with his counterpart, Mrs Charlotte
Vere, Baroness Vere of Norbiton, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the
Department for Transport.
The aim of the bilateral meeting was the
signing of the Agreement concerning Air Services, as well as of the Agreement
on International Road Transport between the Government of Montenegro and the
Government of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. The
mentioned agreements regulate relations in the field of transport in a modern
manner, facilitating flow of goods and passengers and removing administrative barriers
in the aforementioned sectors. The draft texts of the agreements were
previously worked out in detail and agreed upon between the two sides during
meetings of joint committees. The signing of these two agreements is of essence
for the advancement of further cooperation between Montenegro and the United
Kingdom.
During the bilateral meeting there was also
discussion regarding potential cooperation in the other areas of transport
sector. Mr. Nurkovic used the opportunity to speak about priority development
projects of the Government of Montenegro, especially focusing on the
construction of Bar-Boljare highway, expressway along the Montenegrin coastline,
railway reconstruction and the concession process for the airports in Podgorica
and Tivat. Mr. Nurkovic presented to Baroness Vere the current status of the above
mentioned projects and the vision for their future development. He emphasized
that the support of the Government of the United Kingdom, either through
certain donations or through various trainings, experience and knowledge
exchange, would be of great significance for Montenegro.
Further cooperation in the fields of road and
air transport was recognized as having special importance, with the two signed
agreements representing a basis for future cooperation of the economies of both
states. On this occasion, Baroness Vere expressed willingness to support Montenegro
through expert support as well as certain donations.

Kingdom, Mr. Borislav Banovic, and independent adviser Ms. Bilsana Bibic.
