Minister of Transport and Maritime Affairs Osman Nurković is paying visit to London and attending the International Road Safety Conference. Minister Nurković met with Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Roads and Transport Security Charlotte Vere, Baroness Vere of Norbiton.
The main objective of the bilateral meeting was the signing of the Agreement on International Road Transport and the Agreement relating to Air Transport between the Government of Montenegro and the Government of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. The agreements regulate transport relations in a modern way, which will facilitate the flow of goods and passengers and remove administrative barriers in the aforementioned sectors. The texts of the draft agreements were previously elaborated and agreed between the two parties at meetings of mixed committees. The signing of these two agreements is crucial for furthering cooperation between Montenegro and the United Kingdom.
The meeting discussed cooperation in other areas of the transport sector. On this occasion, Minister Nurković informed his counterpart about priority development projects of the Government of Montenegro, with a special focus on the construction of the Bar-Boljare motorway, the fast road along the Montenegrin coast, the reconstruction of the railway and the process of granting concessions for the airports in Podgorica and Tivat. He emphasised that the support of the Government of the United Kingdom, through certain donations and various forms of training and exchange of knowledge and experience, would be significant for Montenegro.
Furthermore, the meeting discussed the importance of further cooperation in the field of road and air transport, while the signed agreements represent the basis of future cooperation between the economies of both countries. On this occasion, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Roads and Transport Security Vere expressed her readiness to support Montenegro both in terms of expert assistance and through donations.
