PM Marković hosts organisers of Montenegro Pride: Montenegro to confirm it is society of equal and satisfied people

Podgorica, Montenegro (20 September 2019) -- The Government will continue to support the exercise of the rights of members of LGBTI community in a high-quality and meaningful manner, Prime Minister Duško Marković stated at the meeting with members of the Organising Committee of 2019 Montenegro Pride, which will take place in Podgorica tomorrow. 

The Prime Minister wished successful maintenance of the Montenegro Pride, hopeful that everything will run smoothly, thus confirming what Montenegro wants - to be a society of equal and satisfied people.

"A difficult period of opening up society and embracing modern values is behind us. Montenegro has turned to European and Euro - Atlantic values and the Government is committed and wisely working towards achieving that goal," the Prime Minister noted. 

PM Marković added that, at its next session, the Government will submit to the Parliament the Draft Law on life partnership of persons of the same sex in order to be considered at the autumn session. President of the Queer Montenegro and a member of the Organising Committee of Montenegro Pride Daniel Kalezić praised the Draft Law and highlighted that the cooperation with the line ministry was successful and to mutual satisfaction. 

The meeting positively assessed and adopted the Strategy for improving the quality of life of LGBTI persons in Montenegro 2019 – 2023, with the 2019 Action Plan, as well as the opening of an LGBTI Drop-in Centre. When it comes to safety of members of this population, Mr Kalezić emphasised an excellent and long - standing cooperation with the police.
