Minister of Foreign Affairs Srđan Darmanović attended today the Climate Action Summit "A Race We Can Win. A Race We Must Win" in New York on the eve of the 74th session of the United Nations General Assembly.

The focus of the Summit, organised at the initiative of UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, was to mobilize political and economic resources at the highest levels to advance actions needed to limit global temperature growth to a safe level.

There is an urgent need to strengthen the common response and take decisive steps towards implementing international agreements, notably the Paris Agreement and the conclusions of the UN Climate Change Conference COP24.

The Member State leaders put forward concrete plans to increase national contributions they will implement from 2020 to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 45% by 2030 and achieve zero emissions by 2050.

Minister Darmanović also attended a high-level meeting – the Global Call to Protect Religious Freedoms, hosted by US President Donald Trump.

The meeting discussed challenges faced by the most important subjects in the field of religious freedoms and identified concrete ways to prevent the persecution and discrimination of members of different religious communities. Furthermore, the importance of international support for religious freedom is emphasised.

Minister Darmanović took part in a working meeting for Western Balkans leaders organised by EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini. The meeting reaffirmed a strong commitment to the European perspective and emphasised importance of continuing reforms, cooperation and good regional relations.
