The Government and the Metropolitanate of Montenegro and the Littoral will continue dialogue on recommendations of the Venice Commission on the Draft Law on Freedom of Religion or Belief and Legal Status of Religious Communities – it was concluded at a meeting between Prime Minister Duško Marković and Metropolitan Amfilohije.
The Government wants to shape the legal system in line with today's needs of Montenegro as a multi-religious and multicultural society. Our obligation is to leave an environment and heritage that will not be a burden to generations to come – PM Marković noted.
The Prime Minister said that the Government respects the Metropolitanate of Montenegro and the Littoral and its supporters, and that it is a common interest to reach the highest degree of consensus on religious issues and in the process of fulfilling the recommendations of the Venice Commission.
"That is why I accepted the Metropolitan's initiative to meet, as well as his request that, after receiving the opinion of the Venice Commission, the Draft Law should be discussed in the presence of legal advisers hired by the Metropolitanate," Marković added.
The meeting was also attended by Deputy Prime Minister for Political System, Internal and Foreign Policy Zoran Pažin, who will lead the Government expert team in the continuation of this dialogue and in its further work on fulfilling the recommendations of the Venice Commission.
