FM Darmanović attends opening of 74th session of UN General Assembly

Minister of Foreign Affairs Srđan Darmanović attended the opening of the General Debate of the 74th Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

World leaders spoke about peace and security, poverty eradication, zero hunger, quality education, climate action and inclusion.

On the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, Minister Darmanović met with US Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary, Bureau of International Organization Affairs Jonathan Moore. They stated that the substantive relations between Montenegro and the USA are strengthened by the Alliance in NATO, emphasising the importance of mutual support in multilateral formats.

During his stay in New York, Minister Darmanović also spoke with Secretary-General of the Union for the Mediterranean Nasser Kamel. The meeting discussed further mechanisms of cooperation between Montenegro and the Union for the Mediterranean,commending Montenegro's role in the Western Balkans, as well as the results achieved in the process of European integration.  The two officials also stressed the importance of the Union's core values, including stability of the region, economic cohesion, and alignment with EU positions.

On the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, Minister Darmanović met with a delegation from the American-Jewish Committee. The meeting  placed importance on opposing anti-Semitism at the global level, pointing out the significance of respect for religious, national and ethnic rights. In that context, both sides praised the position of the Jewish Community in Montenegro and the contribution of the State to their safety.

Minister Darmanović also attended a reception hosted by President of the European Council Donald Tusk, First Vice-President of the European Commission Frans Timmermans and High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini.
