PM Marković hosts USSCG delegation: Government and Trade Union's common task is improving working conditions

Podgorica, Montenegro (25 September 2019) -- Within the regular quarterly consultations, Prime Minister Duško Marković hosted the delegation of the Union of Free Trade Unions of Montenegro (USSCG), headed by Secretary – General Srđa Keković

The Prime Minister welcomed the efforts of the Union of Free Trade Unions in terms of improving the position of employees, noting that the measures to increase the minimum wage and the introduction of non-working Sunday in the trade sector are result of cooperation among the Government and trade unions. 

Secretary – General of the USSCG Srđa Keković informed the Prime Minister about the initiatives, which the Trade Union initiated in certain ministries and said that they aim to boost the position of employees and all citizens of Montenegro as well.

The meeting mentioned key initiatives: the Draft Law on Amendments to the Law on Pensions and Disability Insurance to place on the Government agenda, the initiative to increase the calculated value of the coefficient in the public sector and the economy, the initiative to solve the housing problems of employees and citizens trough the construction of social housing owned by the state, the initiative to include representatives of the representative trade unions in the Statistical Council and the initiative for the introduction of the system of accountability at all levels are mentioned as key initiatives. 

The interlocutors exchanged views on proposals to increase salaries in education and health and emphasised the common commitment to have a dialogue within the institutions about this but also on the above issues. 

"I support the activities aimed at boosting the position of employees in education and health. The Government is committed to that dialogue and it will take participation at the highest level," said the Prime Minister.

In that regard, the Prime Minister highlighted that the Government will continue to support solving of the housing needs of employees in all sectors. Therefore, the Prime Minister informed about the expectation of key housing delivery for about 300 families that are employed in the security sector next week in Podgorica and assessed the USSCG initiative in connection with the proposed model of social housing construction as constructive. 

Both sides agreed that the working conditions improvement is a common task and that all the priority issues will be solved based on regular cooperation. 

The USSCG expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister Marković for his respect and readiness to conduct a dialogue with the USSCG and pointed to the need for further cooperation among the social partners on matters of common interest. 

Deputy Secretary Generals of the USSCG Željko Burić and Zvonko Pavićević and Legal adviser of the USSCG Ivana Mihajlović also attended the meeting.
