Minister Darmanović attends CEI meeting in New York: Montenegro begins preparations for its presidency

Minister of Foreign Affairs Srđan Darmanović took part in the meeting of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the CEI Member States, held on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York, under the Italian Presidency.
The ministers assessed that the Initiative over the 30 years of its existence confirmed its importance and credibility, primarily through support for a credible European perspective, sustainable growth, and project-oriented cooperation.
Minister Darmanović informed his counterparts that Montenegro will provide all the preconditions for a successful CEI 2020 Presidency, and that we have already undertaken activities to prepare priorities and event calendars that will be aligned with the strategic goals of the Initiative.
Furthermore, the ministers discussed the possibilities of regional youth integration, cooperation in the fields of scientific diplomacy, energy, transport, as well as the fight against corruption.
Minister Darmanović, within the delegation led by President Milo Đukanović, met with US Acting Assistant Secretary of European and Eurasian Affairs Philip Reeker. The meeting highlighted the strong partnership between Montenegro and the USA, as well as Washington's commitment to the Western Balkans in resolving remaining open issues and stabilizing regional opportunities.
Minister Darmanović attended a working meeting of foreign ministers hosted by US Secretary of State Michael Pompeo.
During his stay in New York, Minister Darmanović also spoke with Minister of Foreign Affairs of Malta Carmelo Abela, with whom he signed the Memorandum of Understanding, which envisages the cooperation of diplomatic academies of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Montenegro and Malta.
The meeting with Singapore's Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan expressed the readiness to intensify political contacts, primarily through mutual visits by ministers, as well as enhancing cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
