Ministers Bošković, Erjavec: Slovenia supports Montenegro on its path to EU

Minister of Defence Predrag Bošković met earlier today with Minister of Defence of the Republic of Slovenia Karl Erjavec, who is paying an official visit to Montenegro.
Minister Bošković expressed his satisfaction with the dynamic of improvement of bilateral cooperation between the two countries, which constantly improves through the exchange of experiences, the skills and the knowledge in the area of defence and security, as well as in the context of active participation in regional initiatives. Minister Bošković highlighted that the previous engagement of the Armed Forces of Montenegro proved itself as a credible ally, but also a reliable support to Montenegro’s citizens.
Therefore, the cooperation is significantly important when it comes to the European agenda. "We discussed how to take a better advantage of Slovenian experiences in this final phase of Montenegro’s integration to the EU and how to overcome some of the pitfalls that exist along this path, but in any case to take advantage of this so - called time of concerns existing in some countries of the Union, when it comes to the enlargement. What is to Montenegro needs to fulfil to the best and fastest way in order to make things right and wait for that political stance of the EU about enlargement".
Minister Bošković expressed his deep gratitude to the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Slovenia on cooperation between the armies of the two countries in the framework of the Multinational Battle Group in Latvia, where Montenegro’s engineering department is present within the engineering platoon of the Slovenian army. He added that this kind of cooperation is of immeasurable significance for Montenegro and to stand firm in order to continue the joint presence in Latvia.
"It is very good that Slovenia and Montenegro are committed to the same companies for the purchase of the helicopters and armorer vehicles. It means that the integration and operability of our two armies in the future period will go easier in the future, bearing in mind that our two countries are committed one to each other when it comes to joint activities, weather in the exercises or missions".
Minister Erjavec pointed out that Montenegro can count on Slovenia as a reliable ally in all areas. He expressed satisfaction with the outstanding bilateral relations between the two countries in the area of defence, highlighting that Montenegro’s achievements, its entry into NATO and excellent position on its path to the EU, are a good example for other Western Balkan countries that aspiring to NATO and EU integration.
In 2021, Slovenia will chair the Council of Europe. I think it will be a good opportunity for cooperation, when it comes to defence and the significance of the Union. During the presidency, our priority will be the Western Balkans and we will continue to give support to Montenegro when we talk about membership, Minister Erjavec stated.
Minister Erjavec will take participation on the Day of dignitaries of the exercise "Joint Challenge 2019" on 27 September, at which will be showed the multinational troops competence for mountain warfare, as well as weapons and equipment that are in the Armed Forces of Montenegro disposal.
