Prime Minister Milo Djukanovic met today with Head of OSCE Mission in Podgorica Ambassador Paraschiva Badescu.

The Prime Minister congratulated Ambassador Badescu on her appointment as Head of OSCE Mission to Montenegro, expressing confidence that, under her management and after the restoration of independence and Montenegros admission to full membership of the OSCE, the Mission would help promote Montenegros cooperation with the OSCE, which had already been exceptionally good.

The Prime Minister once again emphasized that an enormous credit for the success of the referendum process belonged to the OSCE, whose professional support had been a considerable contribution to a fair referendum and to the international communitys recognition of the democratically expressed will of the Montenegrin people.

The Prime Minister informed his guest that the new governments priorities, it being a government of continuity, would be the strengthening of political stability, development of a multiethnic society, more intense economic development, furtherance of European and transatlantic integration and an expectation that this years goals would be achieved, i.e. a Stabilization and Association Agreement with the European Union concluded and membership of NATOs Partnership for Peace gained.

It was agreed that OSCEs past relations and cooperation with the Montenegrin Government and relevant authorities had resulted in the adoption of contemporary standards in the field of state administration, judiciary, local government, security, human rights, media freedom, etc. Both sides expressed readiness and expectation that, in the new circumstances, cooperation in the above fields would be furthered, enabling quicker adoption of European standards in the process of European and transatlantic integration.
