Prime Minister Duško Marković noted that security services throughout our history have been the first to defend the peaceful dream of Montenegro’s citizens and that they have played a significant and sometimes a decisive role in maintaining internal stability of Montenegro. Today, he added, they are tackling a complex security challenges, wich require new knowledge and new technologies.
"The Government is highly aware that only skilled and technically trained services can adequately tackle these challenges and that will do its best to create the best possible conditions for the Police functioning. On the contrary!" said PM Marković at today's session of the Police Collegium.
The Prime Minister noted that the setting up of the Police Directorate as an independent state authority created an institutional framework that gave visible results in the fight against organised crime, in terms of preventing the most serious crimes or identification of the perpetrators of those crimes that could not be prevented, and in the fight against corruption and financial crime, all the way to providing safer traffic on our roads.
"I take this opportunity to say to all our police officers that, when carrying out their duties, always bear in mind something that was established more than one hundred years ago, by the first police rulebook in the Principality of Montenegro: never address citizens 'in a harsh or insulting manner'," PM Marković noted. He also stated that according to all researches, in recent years, Montenegro has significantly improved relationship of mutual trust between police officers and citizens, stressing that “we have to work constantly to improve it."
"My message to the management of the security services is very clear: I request that you provide the functioning of the security sector in accordance with the needs and expectations of the citizens of Montenegro, uncompromisingly protect primarily the State but also every individual who is threatened by criminal activities, in other words, to make everyone except criminals in Montenegro live peacefully," said the Prime Minister at the meeting of the Police Collegium.
