Minister of Defence Predrag Bošković participated in the Security Forum in Warsaw and spoke on the panel "NATO after 70 years - the future of the Alliance". He emphasised the importance of this year's forum, bearing in mind that it marks 70 years since NATO's founding, 20th anniversary of Poland's membership and 2nd anniversary of Montenegro's membership in the Alliance.
The Minister stressed that only by strengthening the mutual trust of the Allies, the willingness to cooperate and providing mutual support can we actively contribute to maintaining a stable and secure environment.
During his participation in the Forum, Minister Bošković exchanged views on contemporary security threats and the benefits of membership in the most powerful political alliance. He noted that Member States should continually improve their defence capabilities and intensify cooperation in order to contribute to NATO's overall capabilities. He stressed that Member States, as well as partners, should contribute, as far as possible, to peacekeeping at a global level and demonstrate a willingness to participate in security initiatives, both regionally and internationally.
Minister Bošković said that Montenegro would remain committed to strengthening its defence capabilities in line with the priorities of the NATO agenda and continue to provide full support and assistance in the fight against contemporary threats to peace and stability in order to contribute to the collective security system. He also reiterated that modernizing the capacities of the Armed Forces of Montenegro and increasing its defence budget are priorities of the Ministry of Defence.
The Sixth Security Forum in Warsaw brought together a large number of statespeople, university professors, diplomats and members of the non-governmental sector. Numerous topics were discussed, including the counter-terrorism, cyber defence, hybrid threats and migration.
During the forum, Minister Bošković met with Secretary General of the OSCE Thomas Greminger. Cooperation between Montenegro and the OSCE and its structures is at a high level, as confirmed by the recent visit of Greminger to Podgorica.
Minister Bošković said he was pleased with the successful cooperation with the OSCE, especially in the area of arms control. He outlined key reforms and priorities in defence and security sector, as well as Montenegro's strategic goals in that regard.
Greminger welcomed the reforms carried out so far, and emphasised the good and continuous cooperation and communication between the OSCE and Montenegro. He thanked our country for its contribution to enhancing transparency, security and confidence in the OSCE in the region, which is of utmost importance bearing in mind growing security challenges. Greminger concluded that the successful cooperation needs to be further enhanced, and expressed OSCE's readiness to support the resolution of current and concrete challenges based on Montenegro's needs.
