Sanitation of cross – border environmental problem on Bojana begins

Published on: Oct 10, 2019 5:00 AM Author: PR Service
As it was announced from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and the Directorate for Food, Veterinary and Phytosanitary Affairs, the cleaning action of the lower course of the Bojana River, i.e. removal of dead poultry carcasses, which float the river for days began during the day.

The cleaning and sanitation of this serious cross – border problem lasts until the evening and it will continue in the morning. Due to the perceived amount of plastic bags, which are located upstream along the Bojana River, it was noted that more days are needed for the collection of all this waste.

In addition to the representatives of the Ministry and the Directorate for Food, Veterinary and Phytosanitary Affairs, members of the Border Police and the Emergency Management Directorate - Protection and Rescue Service also attended the action of animal waste removal.

Today, under the supervision of a veterinary inspector, the authorised veterinary clinic in cooperation with the communal services collected animal waste that is harmless destroyed.
We recalled that in response to the application of citizens that significant amount of the killed chickens appeared again in the last seven days, in the River Bojana, the representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture and the Directorate for Food, Veterinary and Phytosanitary Affairs visited the Bojana River today in order to urgently address this issue and prevent negative consequences for the environment and citizens.

Everything indicates that this is a cross – border problem, which must be resolved in communication with the competent services in Albania, so that such environmental incidents that are not befitting countries with aspirations to the EU membership, do not repeat anymore.
