Bijelo Polje, Montenegro (12 October 2019) -- Prime Minister Duško Marković visited earlier today the construction site of the Cmiljača Ski Centre near Bijelo Polje. He expressed satisfaction with the progress of work, noting that this prospective ski resort and a tourist complex in Bjelasica as a whole will create a new momentum for Montenegro's economy and that it will create new jobs and opportunities for young people of the Bijelo Polje region.

"I wanted to see at the end of the construction season what has been done this year, how the works are going on and how we can best prepare to continue with even greater intensity in 2020. When it comes to the development of the Bjelasica mountain and ski centres in Bjelasica, the Government is now focusing on Cmiljača. We want to put it in operation as quickly as possible,” the Prime Minister said.

We have taken a number of steps forward, he added, noting that the renowned cable car manufacturer Leitner and their local partner New Volvox have done a serious job of laying the pillars of the future cable car and of the starting and exit stations.

"Therefore, we have been implementing our development plan when it comes to Cmiljača and Bijelo Polje as a whole. The total value of the project is EUR 23 million - 17 million of contracts signed, 10 million of contracts enforced. I believe that Cmiljača, Žarski and Kolašin 1600 will create a significant momentum in 2021 not only for the winter and overall tourist economy but for the entire Montenegrin economy: new jobs, incentives for many other supporting activities and of course new opportunities for young people in this region,” Prime Minister Duško Marković  concluded.

The designed cable car capacity is 2,600 skiers per hour and it s almost 1.4 km long.

One of more demanding segments of this project is the construction of the Ravna Rijeka - Latinska kosa - Jasikovac - Cmiljača access road, with a total length of about 16 km, which will be linking the prospective mountain centre to the main road, thus making it accessible to all winter tourism lovers.

In parallel with the construction of the cable car and the access road, the works on the electricity infrastructure, funded by the Government with EUR 1.18 million from the capital budget, for the purposes of powering the Cmiljača ski resort are underway.

In addition to the ski resort in Cmiljača, within the works on the complex of winter centres in Bjelasica, a tourist centre at the Žarski katun location in the municipality of Mojkovac is also underway. This year, a 6-seater cable car was opened at the Kolašin 1600 Ski Resort.
