The use of modern information technologies is of great importance for equal access to justice and the creation of a fair, transparent, efficient and accountable judiciary, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Justice Zoran Pažin said in his address at the Council of Europe's Conference of Ministers of Justice in Strasbourg.
The Deputy Prime Minister emphasised the importance of the need for the development of the judiciary through the timely introduction of information and communication platforms that will enable faster access to justice for citizens and the economy. He assessed that judicial reform in Montenegro is a priority and expressed his expectation that Montenegrin judicial institutions, using modern information technologies, will improve efficiency in accessing justice, providing services to citizens and institutions, as well as cooperation with other judicial systems and international organisations.
DPM Pažin met with Parliamentary State Secretary at the Ministry of Justice and Consumer Protection of the Federal Republic of Germany Christian Lange.
Deputy Prime Minister Pažin thanked the German Government for its comprehensive partnership support and good cooperation at all political and expert levels, assessing that Germany is one of the EU Member States providing the most concrete support to the strengthening of the rule of law and the European path of Montenegro. While expressing his understanding that the European Union is currently facing significant internal issues, DPM Pažin said that the Union had not adequately noted the progress made by Montenegro in the integration process over the past year. In this regard, he stressed Montenegro's expectation that negotiations would soon be opened in the only remaining negotiating chapter, Chapter 8 – Competition, and that work would start on establishing benchmarks for closing negotiations in negotiation chapters 23 and 24 as soon as possible.
DPM Pažin pointed out that engagement of a German expert in the Ministry of Justice of Montenegro as the Special Adviser to the Minister of Justice would contribute to the implementation of concrete judicial reform activities.
