Minister Damjanović met today with a delegation of the Cancer Institute and Hospital of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences. The meeting was devoted to cooperation in the field of cancer research and prevention.
On this occasion, Minister Damjanović familiarised the Chinese delegation with the project of the South East European International Institute for Sustainable Technologies (SEEIIST), which will enable treatment and research of various types of cancers using protons and heavy ions, while the Chinese delegation representatives presented their Academy of Medical Sciences, which is a top-ranked oncology medical institution in China. As part of its visit to Montenegro, the delegation will take the opportunity to visit other competent institutions as well.
Pursuant to the Agreement on Cooperation in Science and Technology, signed between Montenegro and the People’s Republic of China in May 2011, three calls for applications for co-financing scientific and technological cooperation have been implemented so far. Under the first call, six joint projects have been realised in the fields of agriculture, mathematics, tourism and technical sciences. Under the second call, eight Montenegrin-Chinese projects have been accepted for the period of 2014-2016. Finally, under the third call (for the period of 2019-2020), which is still open, as many as fourteen joint projects have been accepted, which points to a trend of growing project cooperation between Montenegrin and Chinese scientific institutions. Next year, the fourth call will be announced for the next two-year period.
