Prime Minister Zeljko Sturanovic met in Podgorica today with Speaker of the Croatian National Parliament Vladimir Seks, who was heading his countys parliamentary delegation on an official visit to Montenegro.
Discussion focused on bilateral relations and cooperation, regional developments and the two countries Euro-Atlantic integration.
Having welcomed this important visit, the Prime Minister took the opportunity to thank the Republic of Croatia for its prompt recognition of Montenegros independence and establishment of diplomatic relations at ambassadorial level. He acquainted his guests with the current economic and political situation in the Republic, in the light of further strengthening of macroeconomic stability and ongoing preparation of a new Constitution.
Mr Seks highlighted the readiness of the Republic of Croatia to become fully engaged in the all-round development of relations and cooperation between the two neighboring countries, both at a bilateral and multilateral level, referring above all to their integration into European and transatlantic structures.
In discussion, both sides welcomed the development of friendly relations, noting the readiness to promote different forms of cooperation, particularly economic. In that context, interest was confirmed for the strengthening and development of cooperation in infrastructure transport and energy, as well as in trade, tourism and associated industries. Particular importance was attached to efforts in constructing the Adriatic-Ionian Highway, which would be significant for the whole region. It was noted that recent visit to Montenegro by Croatian Prime Minister Sanader and the implementation of agreements on political and economic cooperation concluded on that occasion represented a sound basis for more intense cooperation between the two countries, both at the bilateral level and at the level of European and transatlantic integration and multilateral cooperation in general.
It was agreed that an important step in developing a new institutional infrastructure for further development of all-round relations and fruitful cooperation was the reciprocal opening of embassies in Podgorica and Zagreb.
It was concluded that good relations between the two countries and extensive cooperation made the best contribution to the stability of the region and its integration into modern international trends, to which this visit would be a definite contribution.
