Press release: Prime Minister Zeljko Sturanovic meets Austrian Parliament Speaker Barbara Prammer

Prime Minister Zeljko Sturanovic met with Parliament Speaker of the Republic of Austria Barbara Pramer in Podgorica today.

In discussion, it was agreed that relations between the two countries were being successfully developed and that the intensive political dialogue was accompanied by increasingly intense activities in other areas, particularly in the field of economic cooperation. Considerable interests and concrete initiatives have been recognized in power industry, road infrastructure, environmental protection, banking, etc. Cooperation in tourism is particularly important, as demonstrated by the current visit of a large group of Austrian tourists, which is part of a wider arrangement.

Prime Minister Sturanovic took the opportunity to thank, once again, the Government of the Republic of Austria for the prompt recognition of Montenegros independence and establishment of diplomatic relations at ambassadorial level. Having informed his guest about the Governments activities concerning Montenegros European and Euro-Atlantic aspirations, as well as the issues of its internal socio-economic development, the Prime Minister said that Austria had contributed to Montenegros accomplishments in the recent past, by providing a strong support on its European path.

Having thanked the Prime Minister for the reception, Mrs Prammer pointed out a strong interest from the Austrian side for the continuance and strengthening of, already well established, bilateral cooperation between the two countries. In that respect, she noted that Austrian partners were ready to take part in different projects concerning the existing and the development of new capacities in Montenegro. In addition, Mrs Prammer stressed that Austria would continue to support Montenegro on its path towards European integration, i.e. prompt incorporation into modern international political and economic trends.
