Podgorica, Montenegro (29 October 2019) -- The role of the court is to empower the entire society with stability by resolving disputable and conflicting situations in the society, Deputy Prime Minister Zoran Pažin said at the opening of the 2019 Judges Day in Budva earlier today.
"Without stability of the society, there is no democracy, and without democracy, there is no overall prosperity of the Montenegrin society in economic, moral, cultural terms," DPM Pažin underscored.
He expressed satisfaction with the progress made by the Montenegrin judiciary in reducing the length of court proceedings and respecting the right to a trial within a reasonable time, which, in his words, came as a result of the responsible work and efforts of the judges, but also of the good organisation of the judiciary.
The Deputy Prime Minister noted that, in the period to come, the Montenegrin judiciary should focus on challenges such as the need to respect and improve the code of ethics and to embrace the standards of the European courts. "Ethics is the origin of law. The judge needs to be ethically grounded,” he emphasised.
Another priority, said the Deputy Prime Minister, is the need to properly absorb the standards of the European courts, primarily of the European Court of Human Rights and the European Court of Justice, into the national legislation.
