Podgorica, Montenegro (30 October 2019) -- The Draft Law on Alternative Dispute Resolution has been prepared and will soon be forwarded to the Government and the Parliament for adoption, which will enable the Montenegrin citizens and businesses to access justice much faster and cheaper through further stimulation and improvement of the extrajudicial dispute resolution system, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Justice Zoran Pažin announced at today's session of the Council for Encouraging and Improving the Application of Alternative Dispute Resolution.
DPM Pažin, who also chairs the Council, expressed satisfaction with the the European Commission's assessment that the Draft Law complies with European standards, as well as with the positive opinions offered by the competent institutions of Montenegro.
The Council noted that the new legal solutions, which are fully in line with international standards in this field, represent a significant improvement of the Montenegrin legal system in terms of access to justice, which is expected to deliver multiple positive results, both for citizens and the economy, and for institutions.
It was underscored that the exceptionally good pace of implementation of the Alternative Dispute Resolution Programme should be maintained, as a guarantee of the development of alternative dispute resolution, while the challenges on the way of encouraging and improving the alternative dispute resolution must be recognised in a timely manner in order to overcome them promptly.
The Alternative Dispute Resolution Programme is part of the Government of Montenegro's Mid-Term Programme of Action 2018-2020, which, under strategic priority 2 "Montenegro - a State governed by the rule of law and good governance", provides for improved access to justice for citizens and legal entities through the use of alternative means of resolving disputes, thereby achieving a greater level of effective and timely protection of rights.
