PM Marković: Montenegro’s tourism becomes synonymous with our economic growth and development
Podgorica, Montenegro (30 October 2019) -- Prime Minister Duško Marković stated earlier today in the Parliament that Montenegro's tourism has become synonymous with economic growth and development of the country. It is a factor that influences the global perception of economy and both quantitative and qualitative indicators point to the fact that this year Montenegro's tourism has been extremely successful.
"According to the latest available data, this year were recorded about 200.000 more tourist and almost 600.000 overnight stays more than in the same period last year. By the end of this year these indicators certainly will be even better. Tourism revenues in the first seven months has grew at the rate of about 4% and amounted to over EUR 531 million and projections are that revenue growth will increase by the end of the year. Tax revenue collection, which also derives its result from tourism, yielded record-breaking results compared to the same period last year. As of 28 October, more than EUR 73 million were collected more compared to the same date last year. Symbolically, August 2019 is the first month in the history of Montenegro’s modern hotel industry when more than one million overnight stays have been realised in hotels," the Prime Minister stated.
The Prime Minister stated that it is evident that tourism is still a strong driver of our entire economy and as a confirmation of that fact he said that 46 hotels are opened this year in Montenegro and our capacities increased by over 3.600 beds.
"That means we ended the summer season with a record 459 hotels and more than 44.000 beds, of which over 56% are in 4 and 5 star hotels," the Prime Minister pointed out.
He highlighted that tourism in the northern region has started to grow strongly and that in the next two years the first five*star hotels in that part of Montenegro are expected.
"So, the policy that this Government has been implementing towards the north of the country and large investment in developing infrastructure creates the conditions for economic growth, hundreds of new jobs and a significant improvement of citizens’ life. In the first seven months of this year, the growth of tourism revenues in the north was at the rate of over 26 %, which shows the great attractiveness of that region when it comes to the summer tourist season," Prime Minister Duško Marković stated.
The Prime Minister recalled that numerous world media write very positively about Montenegro, and as example of that he mentioned the Forbs Magazine, which put Montenegro at the 13th place of world destinations to visit and that British Guardian described Kolašin as one of the best small ski resorts in Europe.
