Prime Minister Zeljko Sturanovic met, in Podgorica today, with the World Tourism Organizations Regional Representative for Europe Luigi Cabrini. The meeting was attended by Minister of Tourism and Environmental Protection Predrag Nenezic.
The Prime Minister informed his guest of the Governments tourism strategy and the results in the sector, highlighting the ever-increasing contribution of tourism to Montenegros GDP growth, as well as the strategic priority the Government attributed to this industry. Both sides noted the importance of sustainable tourism in Montenegro, particularly in national parks and surrounding areas. In that respect, for the first time in Montenegro, a seminar on sustainability indicators and destination management is to be organized in Kolasin under the auspices of the World Tourism Organization.
Mr Cabrini informed the Prime Minister of the global trends in tourism development and noted that the largest growth was being made in developing markets, among which Montenegro occupied one of the top places. He said that the World Tourism Organization supported the Governments tourism strategy and announced that Montenegro would be officially declared a full member of the World Tourism Organization at the Organizations annual assembly in November this year.
